Sonar lets developers build apps with the best AI answer engine: a fast, affordable API offering with the features that millions of Perplexity users love, including real-time internet search and trusted citations.

Advanced Sonar offerings such as Sonar Reasoning, Sonar Reasoning Pro, and Sonar Deep Research let developers build custom research agents that support follow up questions and expose chain-of-thought.

We’re looking for developers to push the boundaries of what’s possible with Sonar and dream up entirely new product categories. If you’ve been thinking about shipping the “Perplexity for \_\_\_\_”, there’s never been a better time to start building.

### Requirements

#### What to Build

*   Build or update an app powered by [Perplexity’s Sonar API](https://docs.perplexity.ai/home)
    

#### What to Submit

*   Include a video (about 3 minutes) that demonstrates your submission. Videos must be uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook Video and made public.
    
    *   Judges will not be required to watch beyond 3 minutes
        
*   Provide a URL to your private code repository for judging and testing.
    
    *   Include a detailed README.md

*   Include an explanation of how Perplexity API was used.
    
*   Identify which category you are submitting into.

### Judging Criteria

*   **Technological Implementation**  
    Does the project demonstrate quality software development? Does the project thoroughly leverage the required tool? How is the quality of the code?
*   **Design**  
    Is the user experience and design of the project well thought out? Is there a balanced blend of frontend and backend in the software?
*   **Potential Impact**  
    How big of an impact could the project have on the target community? How big of an impact could it have beyond the target community?
*   **Quality of the Idea**  
    How creative and unique is the project? Does the concept exist already? If so, how much does the project improve on it?
